Johanna Shelton - Participant

Johanna Mikes Shelton currently leads all Google public policy engagement with the Obama Administration and the U.S. Executive Branch. As one of the early members of Google’s public policy team, Shelton has played a key role in nearly every issue the company has faced since 2007, including competition, intellectual property, privacy, broadband and Internet governance matters. She has also led Google’s political and policy engagement with House and Senate Democrats. Prior to Google, Shelton held senior leadership positions at the intersection of technology, business, and public policy in Congress, the Executive Branch, and private practice. Shelton served as senior counsel for all telecommunications and Internet issues before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce under Chairman John D. Dingell (D-MI). Before that, she counseled Representative Rick Boucher (D-VA), focusing on telecommunications and intellectual property. She held senior positions at the FCC under Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein and the Common Carrier Bureau. Shelton spent time in private practice as an attorney for Latham & Watkins in Washington DC and clerked for the Honorable Karen Nelson Moore, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Shelton received her J.D. magna cum laude and a B.S. in Business Administration summa cum laude from Georgetown University.
